MEALS ON WHEELS

Meals on Wheels

Coordinated by the Cowichan Seniors Community Foundation, our dedicated and caring volunteers will deliver hot nutritious meals Monday through Saturday with the option of also ordering a frozen dinner for Sunday. This service is also very successful and gratifying for clients and their families as this is like a check-in detail for seniors who live alone or may be isolated.

Phone to register for this meal program.  Volunteers are also always welcome and needed. Do you have a few hours once a week that you would like to offer?  Please give us a call if you're interested or have enquiries

Duncan Chapter Meals on Wheels Program during Covid-19

Meals on Wheels – Duncan Chapter

Below is information on how our Meals on Wheels Program works:

At this time, meals are delivered in a zero-contact manner. Meals are in disposable containers brought in plastic bags. These are hung on the doorknob or otherwise specified location. When operations return to normal, the program will return to using reusable glass containers.

  • Meals are delivered hot Monday through Saturday, with the option to purchase a frozen meal for Sunday.

  • Clients can use the service as often or as little as they wish during the week. We have some folks who get them every day and others that only get them a couple of times a week.

  • Delivery is between 4pm and 5pm.

  • Regular meals are $6.50. Large/specialty meals are $8.50. Specialty meals includes vegetarian, vegan and dairy-free.

  • Daily meal includes a starter, entrée and dessert. Pureed meals are an option for those that need it.

  • Clients are invoiced at the end of every month. Invoices can be paid by cheque, e-transfer or by cash.

  • Meals can usually start the day after a client signs up, provided they inform us before 3pm the day prior.

  • If there is the need to cancel a meal, there is no charge to the client provided they inform the office by 3pm the day prior.

  • Meal delivery can be put on hold for clients for days they are away, on holidays etc., provided the office is informed by 3pm the day prior.

  • Delivery area is the City of Duncan and its close surrounding area. This is to ensure food temperatures remain at a safe level and delivery time is within a reasonable window. Call or email the office to enquire if you are within the delivery parameters.

Contact the office at cscfoundation@shaw.ca or 250-715-6481 to sign up or with any questions.

Thanks to grant funding, no Meals on Wheels client was billed for their meals for the months of April, May or for part of June as part of an initiative to assist clients during Covid-19. Meals were 100% covered through the generosity of the United Way of the Lower Mainland Healthy Aging initiative, the New Horizons Program, the United Way of Greater Victoria, as well as Varga + Associates Private Wealth Management of RBC Dominion Securities. Thank you to Cowichan Green Community for assisting us in securing one of these grants. Covering client meals alleviated a lot of stress for them and allowed them to continue to receive healthy nutrition.
